CHAPTER ONE REVIEW
Here are the Chapter One Notes:
1-1 Estimation:
There are three main methods of estimating. They are rounding, front-end estimation, and compatible numbers. Most problems will tell you what place value to round to so carefully follow directions. FOr those that do not, round to the point that you are able to solve the problem mentally
1-2/1-3 Operations w/ Decimals:
When adding and subtracting decimals remember to line up the decimals. In doing so you are lining up the place values correctly.
When multiplying decimals the amount of numbers behind the decimal in your answer (product) should equal the sum of the amount of values behind the decimal in the two numbers being multiplied (factors).
1-4/1-5 Metric System & Conversions:
Here you must recall of of the prefixes. The units are liter (volume), meter (distance) and gram (weight). The prefixes are kilo (x1000), hecto (x100), deka (x10), deci (x 1/10), centi (x1/100), and milli (x1/1000) . You may bring your conversion ladder tomorrow to assist you in completing the assessment.

1-6/1-7/1-8 Absolute Values & Operations with Integers:
The absolute value is always the distance between the number and zero, regardless of the number's sign. In other words the absolute value of 2 is 2. The absolute value of -2 is also 2. Both 2 and -2 are equidistant from 0.
When multiplying or dividing integers remember:
positive * positive = positive
negative * negative = positive
negative * positive = negative
positive * negative = negative
1-9/1-10 Order of Operations, The Distributive Property & Statisitics
Remember to always follow the orders of operations. P.E.M.D.A.S. or please excuse my dear aunt Sally
Parentheses
Exponents
Multiplication/Division (from left to right)
Addition/Subtraction (from left to right)
